Let dog whisperer Maya solve your pet’s problems
Expert therapist is new columnist
Maya McLaughlin is an expert when it comes to dog behaviour.
And she is confident there is not a pooch with a problem that she cannot address and help.
After graduating as a canine behaviourist Maya, who also practices reiki on her canine clients, is on a mission to help all dogs in Ayrshire.
After working in admin around the globe Maya set up the charity Street Dogs in Pune.
And it was her love for the animals that saw Maya come home to Dundonald and work towards her canine behaviour qualifications.
She has a firm belief that dogs truly are our greatest companions.
“I believe that dog training is a progressive science and I use only positive reinforcement methods to help you help your dog to become the happy, confident pet he really wants to be,” said Maya.
“I offer one- to- one assessments to help all breeds of dogs change unwanted behaviours including aggression, chewing, anxiety, barking or jumping up.
“Just like people, dogs respond best to positivity so you will find my practice uses only progressive training methods designed to help both the dog and the owner towards a happier future together.
“All techniques practised by me are non- intrusive and cruelty free.
“All breeds of dogs benefit from positive behaviour training so, whether a dog is a pup, mature, elderly or a rescue, he can be guided towards exchanging unwanted conduct for positive behaviour.”
Now Maya, 50, helps dogs through her practice of reiki.
“It’s not as mad as it sounds,” she said.
“I am often called in when dogs have Alzheimer’s or are suffering from stress. It works so quickly to calm them down.
“On a serious note, I am often called in if a dog is in the later stages of life and needs help and comfort while passing over.
“It is something I firmly believe in and, while I can also work with humans, I do enjoy my time with the dogs.”
