Auchinleck triple and Prestwick double sides qualify Ayr gents get lift- off

Two groups of Ayrshire teenagers are bound for the SYIBA national finals at Aberdeen in March.

Auchinleck’s Fraser Young, Sophie Reid and George Robertson qualified in the triples after beating hosts Ardrossan, East Kilbride and Prestwick’s Lewis Brown, Adam Sturgeon and Jordan Law.

Prestwick’s Ross Gouldstone and Rebecca Houston won through in the pairs after beating Auchinleck duo Steven McAllister and Dylan Lennon 8- 7.

Auchinleck ladies beat Galleon 79- 74. Scores: J Williamson 8, A Gilmour 29; C Johnston 20, D Marshall 17; M Shimmons 24, I McFarlane 12; H Kay 27, J McFedries 12.

The gents lost by 41 shots at home to Inverclyde. Scores: D McClue 16, J Fleming jnr 25; G. Johnstone 25, C Bence 19; J Gibson 8, S Wotherspoo­n 22; D Ferguson 14, J Reid 38.

Auchinleck gents finished third in the Ayrshire Top Nine. Ayr were winners for the second year in a row. Runnersup were Prestwick.

Auchinleck ladies Team won their Ayrshire Top Nine, beating Galleon by one shot at Prestwick Ambassador.

Claire Johnston, Heather Kay and Hannah Smith were selected to play for Scotland in the BIIBC Ladies Internatio­nal Series in Belfast from March 10 to 12.

On Friday, Claire Johnston will play at the World Indoor Bowling Championsh­ips at Potters in Norfolk. She teams up with Nicky Brett in the mixed pairs against Alex Marshall and Katy Smith.

On Saturday, Claire will play Ellen Faulkner in the World Ladies Matchplay singles.

On Saturday, Auchinleck seniors play Paisley in the quarter- final of the SIBA Senior League Cup at Inverclyde, new time of 10.30am to 2.30pm. Bus leaves club at 8.45am.

The gents travel to play East Kilbride, leaving at 12.45pm.

The ladies play their last league match at home to leaders Blantyre who they trail by a point. The winning team on Saturday will secure a place in the league play- offs on January 28.

On Sunday, Auchinleck play Ayr at the Galleon in the SIBA Team Championsh­ip from 2- 6pm.

Baird Bowl: 11am to 1pm: Auchinleck Outdoor v Auchinleck Indoor; Galston v Sorn.

Prestwick gents bid to end on a positive note on Saturday when they travel to Allander while the ladies look to use home advantage to gain their first two points of the season when they face Galleon.

Paul Foster will take his place in the Scotland team to play in the Home Internatio­nals in March after Sunday’s trial at Falkirk but Craig Lindsay misses out.

Paul teamed up with Alex Marshall ( East Lothian) in the World Pairs at Potters but lost in a tie break to Les Gillett and Jason Greenslade. In the singles, Paul takes on Michael Cheeseman in round one on Thursday.

On Sunday, Prestwick play the first round of the Team Championsh­ip at Ayr against Galleon at 2pm.

The club hosts the Under 35 tie between Ardrossan and East Kilbride at 2pm.

Rebecca Houston, Jordan Law, Ross Gouldstone and Adam Sturgeon attended the SYIBA Internatio­nal trial at Abbeyview on Sunday looking to gain a place in the squad to play Ireland and Guernsey in a tri- series in Belfast. Unfortunat­ely, only Rebecca made the 12 player squad. Ayr gents moved off bottom place with a 91- 65 home victory over Bainfield with the rinks of Billy Anderson, Stuart Wyllie and Colin Smith all recording wins.

On Saturday, they visit table toppers Blantyre hoping to spring a surprise.

The ladies lost 79- 77 at Inverclyde, but the defeat of top side East Kilbride at Dumbarton keeps alive hopes of topping the section.

On Saturday, they host the league leaders and a 17- shot victory will see Ayr promoted to the Premier League. The game starts at 2pm and spectators are welcome.

On Sunday, Ayr gents retained the Ayrshire Top Nine Trophy. The successful team was pairs: D Shields and P Shields, triples: F Fulton, B Anderson and J Cuthbertso­n, fours: A Paxton, A Law, C Smith and J O’Neill
