Readers express their anger as the axe falls

- Michael Reynolds

The Ayrshire Post was first with the Flower Show news online – and readers reacted furiously to the story.

We broke the news at 5pm on Tuesday evening and within a matter of hours, hundreds of concerned people had shared their views on the loss of the historic show.

Peter Lockhart said: “Very sad. Think the council should have continued to fund, even if that meant reducing it this year. It should be remembered, this show does attract visitors to our town and should be seen as an asset.

“Interesting to know what the candidates for the forthcoming local election in May have to say?”

And Sylvia Collie added: “This is shocking, South Ayrshire Council needs a complete overhaul obviously a lot of people can’t do their jobs. “They are destroying Ayr.” And others called for an overhaul at County Buildings, hoping for more independent councillors to act in the interests of the town.

Alasdair Malcolm said: “Long overdue that more independent candidates stood for election to SAC, without the burden of the party politics nonsense.”

And Karen Isaacsen said: “Just another bad decision made by the council.

“Along with the extremely costly cycle lane at the cemetery. Is this how they are trying to pull back the money?

“Have seen Ayr go downhill in the last few years. Disgusting.”
