The Rotary Club of Alloway’s successful fundraisin­g efforts, are helping school children in Nepal to get back onto the road of normal education.

The contributi­on has helped girls return to school and has assisted in the creation of new schools.

Club members give thanks for the support of the public and generous business sponsors at the first annual River Ayr Duck Race last year, which raised a whopping £ 2650.

Following this, the rotary district funds donated £ 2150 to give a total of £ 4800 which was used to support a schools rebuilding project in Katmandu. This was made possible through collaborat­ion with the Rotary Club of Kasthamand­ap, who are involved in a number of school rebuilding projects.

The first instalment of funds was used to provide two sets of science laboratory equipment and the team

recently received news that this has been purchased and handed over to the schools, Shramic [ Labor] School and Bhaleshwor School. The second instalment is to be used to purchase toilet facilities for the Jogeshwr Lower Secondary School at Mahadev Tar in very Kavre district, enabling girls to return to school.

The Rotary Club of Kasthamand­a said in a message to the Alloway Rotary Club: “We wish to express our sincere appreciati­on to you and your club for the generous gift, it has no doubt brought much delight to the needy children as they are now equipped to pursue their science education in sufficient quantity.”
