Man called Donner’s kebab fury

- Stephen Houston

An armed thug called Donner threatened to slash a man in a kebab house.

Menace Nathan Donner went into the takeaway in Maybole and pulled out the weapon from his waistband.

Later the 19- year- old then went berserk in a Girvan hotel and brutally attacked another man after being refused drink later in the night.

Sheriff Desmond Leslie sentenced him to 17 months in jail at Ayr Sheriff Court this week for the rampage.

Donner’s crime spree started at 9.10pm on Tuesday, October 18 when he accosted Ryan McCulloch who was walking in Maybole’s Carrick Street.

Mr McCulloch told Donner he didn’t want a fight, depute fiscal Suzanne Fotheringham told the court.

Mr McCulloch then dived into Sizzlers Tandoori in Maybole High Street for a takeaway. Ms Fotheringham said Donner followed him into the takeaway and closed the door.

She told the court: “The accused said: ‘ Do I look like a daftie?” He had a knife stuck in his trousers.”

She said Donner announced: ‘ I slashed c*** s for less.’

After leaving the takeaway and leaving Mr McCulloch quivering in shock, Donner headed to Girvan.

He ent e r e d t h e Queens Hotel in the town at 11.15pm. Ms Fotheringham said: “The accused was barred from the location and was told he wouldn’t be served alcohol.

“The accused became agitated and continued to ask to be served.”

Punter Andrew Byram intervened and told Donner it wasn’t the bar staff’s fault.

The violent yob then turned on Mr Byram punching and kicking him on the head.

He left him lying injured outside the hotel and walked away.

Ms Fotheringham said a member of staff managed to get the knife from Donner during the tussle.

Lawyer Mandy Stewart, defending, said Donner had “alcohol issues.”

She said: “He is extremely disappointed with himself for getting i nv o l v e d i n s u c h behaviour.”

Sheriff Desmond Leslie said: “He has been given every chance, every possible chance.”

The sheriff told Donner: “You carried a knife, you showed people the knife and you armed yourself with a knife.” He added: “I’m afraid your time has run out.”

Two women sobbed in court as Donner was led downstairs in handcuffs.
