Teams get cash boost

£ 5.5k for new club facilities

-

Sarah Jane McDonald An football club are set to enjoy brand new facilities following a generous grant from the Banks Community Fund.

A donation for a whopping £ 5,500 was handed to the resident Glenafton Athletic teams based in New Cumnock, who now look to regularly use their clubhouse and function rooms at Loch Park. The donation will assist the team to buy toilets, allowing players to meet and train on their grounds without having to use other clubhouses.

Vice chair of Glenafton Community Development Group, David Kerr said: “It has been great finally upgrading the function room to provide facilities for everyone using it, the building is used by a number of community groups and, of course, the football teams to meet and provide hospitality for visitors.

“Previously you would have to make a trip to one of the other parts of the clubhouse which, when you have 30 or 40 people meeting, is not ideal.”

The New Cumnock club, which consists of three teams – the juniors, boys and over- 35s – plays host to many clubs and community groups looking for a place to meet and chat about football.

Community relations manager at the Banks Group, Lewis Stokes added: “We are pleased to be playing a part in improving the facilities of a much used and core part of the community.

“Hopefully, this addition will build on the already great venue at Loch Park.”

The Banks Community Fund is a fund set up by family- owned The Banks Group, to support eligible commu n i t y g roups, voluntary organisations and environmental projects.
