Local dog lovers are voted the Hosts with the most
Two Ayrshire dog lovers who are part of a Barking Mad project have scooped awards for their devotion to their four- legged friends.
Eileen Kerr and Colina McCann were chosen as hosts of the month by the company which finds homes for dogs when their owners go on holiday.
Faye Carruthers who runs Barking Mad Ayrshire nominated the women for their devotion to the dogs they care for.
“Head Office runs a monthly competition amongst the franchisees for nominations for the Host of the Month competition and Eileen Kerr from Kilwinning has won for February,” explained Faye.
“Eileen always goes above and beyond with her dogs and she is loved by them and their owners who all get to know her.
“I nominated Eileen as she handles any quirks the dogs have and goes above and beyond.
“As there are 70 of us and about 40 hosts per franchise, there were a lot of entries.
“All the Hosts are, of course, fabulous so the winner really has to have gone above and beyond.
“Another Ayrshire host, Colina McCann from Ardrossan won a national contest to enjoy a Virgin balloon flight and I was thrilled to go along and surprise Colina with some champagne and flowers.”
Since getting involved in Barking Mad, Faye has a group of host families who regularly meet and share their doggy tales.
“I am amazed at the camaraderie among the people who offer the dogs their homes,” said Faye.
“They are a truly great bunch of people and it is amazing how much they get out of their time with the dogs.”
Eileen adores every dog she fosters.
“I make sure these dogs have the best holiday away from their home and surroundings that I can give them,” said Eileen.
“And I have to admit I would have dogs every day of the year.
“They are the best company and while I know I have to give them back to their owners, the last day when I return home to the empty house is always tinged with a little sadness - until the next lodger arrives at the door.”
