Burns Supper was a huge HIT for college
Ayrshire College students provided the backdrop for world class Burns speakers and musicians at the inaugural Hospitality Industry Trust ( HIT) Burns Supper fundraising event at the Brig O’Doon House Hotel in Alloway.
HIT Scotland works closely with colleges and universities in Scotland, supporting the development of emerging talent in the Hospitality industry, awarding scholarships and bursaries, helping people to advance in the industry.
Developing their skills, the students from the Creative and Hospitality and Tourism curriculum areas, played various roles throughout the evening.
Guests were greeted by HNC Media students who provided entertainment prior to and during the event.
Graphic Design student Kelsae Stuart won a competition to design the brand new HIT logo which was projected on the outside of the building, as well as appearing in the programme.
Photos were taken by HNC Photography students, with Sound Production and Technical Theatre students in charge of the sound and lighting throughout the evening.
Ayrshire College lecturers, Colin Train and Alistair McCulloch provided musical entertainment along with singing from HND Music student Eilidh Wilde. HND Hospitality Management student Mollie Browne and lecturer Richard Canale have been awarded HIT Scotland scholarships to attend the world- renowned Lausanne Hotel School in Switzerland for a week in February.
Head of Hospitality and Tourism at Ayrshire College, John Govan said: “I am delighted that they have been offered this scholarship.
“It’s an experience of a lifetime and will introduce Mollie to completely different possibilities for the future and help shape her career. For the lecturer Richard, it is a fantastic opportunity to learn different approaches and techniques to bring back and teach our students.”
Ken Campbell, Chair of HIT the Bard Committee said: “Special thanks must go to the students and lecturers of Ayrshire College.
“We are delighted so many of the students have been involved in all aspects of the event including lighting, photography, sound, vision and drama. It has been a joy to work with them on this project, they are a credit to the College.”
David Cochrane, HIT Chief Executive Officer added: “The buzz in the room coupled with the great service, hospitality, food, drinks, music, entertainment and general camaraderie was a winning combination. The student involvement was a wonderful example of industry education partnership.”
