Hello folks I hope you are doing well!

The year feels like it’s flying in and I know for me that January passed by in a flash.

I’m going to be collecting musical instruments on behalf of community groups so if you have any old or unwanted instruments please rehome them! You can donate your instruments by posting or delivering to Little Fire, Ayrshire Post, 154 High Street, Ayr, KA7 1PX

A week on Saturday will see Highland indie rockers Neon Waltz bring their show to the Harbour Arts Centre in Irvine. Having seen them at the HAC last year I can recommend them as well worth going to see and with Ayrshire band The Cairds opening for them it looks to be a cracker of a night.

An Ayrshire musician is raising money for cancer with a series of gigs and I urge you to get behind him. Steven Montgomery is a big hearted and passionate musician who deserves support. I caught up with him for a chat about Stand Up 2 Cancer Kilmarnock which will take place at the Bellfield Tavern on Friday, March 17.

Steven said: “My mum passed away in December 2015 from diffuse lymphoma and I knew from that point that I wanted to raise funds for Cancer Research UK. They do great work and are trialling various treatments at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital where my mum was. I think it’s abysmal that one in two people in the UK can be affected by cancer. More needs to be done to treat and prevent it if possible. The majority of these charities rely on donations and I’m keen to help with that.

“On the bill for the gig is Andy K, a well- known singer songwriter and twelve string master who always gives 100 per cent. He’s brilliant and it’s wonderful to have him open Stand Up 2 Cancer Kilmarnock. Andy is a regular in the music scene and frontman of The Cairds who have their debut release this year.”

“One of Ayrshire’s newest up and coming bands Mannequin Mannequin will be on the line- up. The band released their debut EP last year and are recording their second record with the first release already attracting praise and attention. If you like your bands to give you something different, a wee bit discordant and left- field they will be right up your street.”

Steven’s own band Velvet Moon will also take to the stage and are not to be missed. It goes without saying that you should get along and support if you can and it has to be said how awesome I think it is when people like Steven get out there and make it happen for a good cause. Well done that man and I’m sure it will be a great gig! Tickets are on sale now from www. bellfield. bigcartel. com.

The FreshAyr festival of Creative Diversity has announced the line- up for the event from March 2- 4 in Ayr. Music is certainly well represented with talents on offer including Flew The Arrow, Colin Hunter, Emma Durkan, and more. All the events take place at Ayr Town Hall and it looks set to be a cracker with so much talent. Tickets are available priced for £ 5 and are available from Eventbrite. co. uk or in person from The Smoking Goat in the Sandgate, or Ayr Brewing Company in Miller Road. Until next week, @ LittleFire
