Photographers focus on the theme of ' Let There Be Light'

-

The final league competition of the Ayr Photographic Club season with the theme of ' Let There Be Light' was judged last week.

The club was joined by Brian Muir of Air Image. All images had to demonstrate an understanding of the effects and use of light on the subject, and tension was high as the final placings in each category depended on the results of this competition.

Robert Collie was the winner of the advanced print section with ‘ Chess,' which depicted a nicely back- lit chess board.

First place in the intermediate prints went to Stephanie McGahan with ‘ Reflecting,' which demonstrated her understanding of portrait lighting.

The winning image in advanced digital images was awarded to Garry Smith with ‘ Subject Matter,' which showed a book lit from above by a single candle.

Miriam Downes won the intermediate digital image category with ‘ Candle Light', a subtle minimalist image of five candles.

The overall winner on the night was awarded to ‘ Chess'.

When the points had been tallied up, the competition secretary Alison Hunter announced the eagerly awaited results of the league.

First place in advanced prints went to Mark McCall, while the winner of advanced digital images was Bill Ryder. Remarkably, both retained their trophies from last year.

The winner of the intermediate prints category was Ian Angus, while first place in intermediate digital images went to Forrest Weir, both of whom achieved promotion to the advanced category.
