Active Schools project a success
Budding young tennis stars had an ace time in a bumper competition.
The event for S1 to S3 pupils was organised by Competitive School Sports and Active Schools South Ayrshire in partnership with Prestwick Tennis Centre.
Forty- nine pupils from Girvan, Belmont, Ayr, Kyle, Prestwick and Marr took part in the latest event run by the two bodies.
Winner was Jamie Young, of Prestwick Academy, who pipped schoolmate Thomas Taylor into second place. Third was Ryan Stribling of Belmont.
During the 2015- 16 academic year, Active Schools had 104,631 participant sessions with 35 per cent of school rolls participating.
They worked with more than 400 volunteers ranging from teachers to senior pupils to club coaches.
Five different leadership programmes were delivered within secondary schools with 220 taking part.
Kyle Academy were winners of the 2005- 16 Competitive School Sports ts Merit League.
All South Ayrshire schools ( primary ry and secondary) entered events with 332 32 entering South Ayrshire’s first primaryry cross country event.
New competitions for 2016- 17 include South Ayrshire Schools cyclingng championships, adventure triathlon,n, rowing, secondary school gymnastics cs floor and vault, curling, lawn bowls,s, club golf and futsal.
A key priority for the Active Schoolsls network is to develop pathways between school and sports clubs to support the transition from school to community sport.
Partnerships with 63 different difffffffffffffffffffffferent local clubs were created during 2015- 16.
Braehead, Dalmilling and Newton primaries were the first to gain Active Schools assistants assistantsafterbeingchosenafter being chosen to takeparttake part in theAttainmentthe Attainment Challenge in South Ayrshire.
