Community celebrate new centre’s opening
£ 1.2m new hub will be “a focal point for the village”
Sarah Jane McDonald Young learners, familes and the Drongan co m m u n i t y h av e celebrated the official opening of a brand new community facility in the heart of the village.
Built by East Ayrshire Council, the new £ 1.2 million early childhood and community centre swung open its shiny new doors to its first pupils, and was opened by Corri Wilson MP for Ayr, Carrick and Cumnock.
The council’s investment saw the current school campus redesigned, creating new modern early years facilities with a more spacious and a brighter environment in which to learn and teach.
In addition, a new community facility, establishing a new community hub and library, has been developed on the site of the old youth wing and the Early Childhood Centre ( ECC, offering a range of social, cultural and educational opportunities for people in the area.
Welcoming guests to the opening, Provost Jim Todd said: “It was absolutely delightful to be entertained by the children from the Early Childhood Centre and what a wonderful way to be welcomed.
“This development is a significant investment in the heart of the Drongan community and continues our commitment to giving every young person a superb, bright and inspirational learning environment.
“Our investment goes further and includes the local community with a new hub set to become a focal point for the village, offering a host of superb community activities, for young and old alike.
“I know how eager the children, parents, staff and the community have been as the work neared completion and I’m pleased it is now open and ready to deliver for the people of Drongan, now and well into the future.”
Officially opening the new centre, Corri Wilson MP, added:“I am delighted to have opened this new Early Childhood and Community Centre in Drongan.
“This is another great example of East Ayrshire Council’s commitment to quality education facilities for our children and young people.
“The new community hub will, I’m sure, provide the wider community with a superb resource and everyone, young and old alike, will benefit significantly from this investment, now and for years to come.”
