Beth McMaster of S1 attended Dalemillington Primary School’s Annual Burns Supper where she piped in the haggis, plus she played with the Red Hot Chilli Pipers during the Christmas holidays. Workshop On Tuesday 24th January Higher and National Modern Studies pupils were privileged to take part in a work shop delivered by Mairead Mackechnie from the Scottish Parliaments outreach programme. This involved pupils discussing the powers of the Scottish Parliament and changes to them and learning about the ways the MSPs represent their constituents by taking on the role of a Diary Manager in a group task. The session was really informative and excellent preparation for SQA exam questions. Modern Studies pupils are now preparing questions for John Scott MSP who will be visiting them on Monday 27th February. Social Studies ‘ Class of the Month’ for January was 2G. Each pupil received a certificate to take home; it was awarded to them because of the high quality work they produced in the William Wallace Unit. This was out of all the BGE classes. Technical students A group of Technical students from Ayr Academy have been working hard at ‘ Morrells Forge’ in Maidens. They were creating a set of gates using 18th century techniques and led by expert blacksmith Tony Morrell. This project was funded by Ayr Townscape Heritage Initiative and directed by Toria Cassidy and Technical teacher Ross Boyle. The gates have now been installed at the bottom of the Sandgate and will be the gateway to the regenerated town centre plan when the old Woolworths building is demolished next year. Well done to the pupils at Ayr. Scottish Cup Well done to all the girls who represented Ayr Academy in the second round of the Scottish Cup with our S3 team playing Cardinal Newman and our S2 team up against Castlehead. Unfortunately Cardinal Newman edged ahead early in the second quarter and took the game 31 goals to 16 but our S2 team were victorious against Castlehead and will progress to the third round of the competition.
