Retro soul stirrers help out Ayrshire’s hospice
A Hootenanny in aid of the Ayrshire Hospice is taking place next month.
It will take place in the Grand Hall, Kilmarnock, on March 4, kicking off at 6.30pm, and will feature Counselled Out, Musichoir and the Ayrshire Fiddle Orchestra.
Counselled Out will headline the night. The Glasgow soul band is a 10- piece retro soul/ R& B band, based on the classic showband line- ups of the 60s and early 70s.
The band first appeared at a one- off charity gig in December 1990 – and the rest is history.
No strangers to the Grand Hall, the band headlined sell- out gigs at the venue for seven consecutive years in the mid- 90s and early 2000s, and still retain the record audience of 1230 for a live music event by an unsigned band.
This concert will be a little bit different – as well as the sheer variety of artistes performing, there will be a special finale featuring the band and the 90- piece Musichoir!
Counselled Out also has a forthcoming gig at Cumnock Town Hall on Friday, May 19 ( ticket info available on 01563 554900). Also featured on the night will be popular Ayrshire choir – Musichoir and the Ayrshire Fiddle Orchestra.
There will also be a silent auction with a selection of local artists’ work amongst other unique items as well as great raffle prizes to be won on the night.
Event organiser, Fiona Smith, is rasing funds for Ayrshire Hospice and will dedicate the show in memory of her late father, Hugh Smith, who resided in the Ayrshire Hospice before he sadly died of lung cancer in 2010.
Fiona’s motivation for the show is not only to celebrate her father’s life but also to show appreciation for the exceptional support that Ayrshire Hospice provided to her dad and his family.
She is also grateful for the support from the Ayrshire Hospice given to her late Aunt Janice during her illness in 2014.
