Leading Celtic harpist Rachel Hair brings duo to Craigie Hall

-

The Rachel Hair duo are the next guests of Craigie Folk Club.

They will be performing on Saturday, March 4, when the club meets at Craigie Village Hall in Craigie Village by Kilmarnock.

Rachel is one of the UK’s finest contemporary Celtic harpists. She performs a spellbinding mix of Scottish, Irish and original harp music, with Jenn Butterworth on guitar and vocals. The duo’s arrangements breathe passion, emotion and energy into traditional and contemporary tunes and songs. Since graduating with a first class honours degree in Music, Rachel’s career has really taken off. She performs widely throughout the UK, Europe, the US and as far afield as India.

She has lectured in Scottish and Irish traditional music at universities in Scotland and America, and was the harp tutor at Douglas Academy, one of Scotland’s four specialist schools for excellence in music. Rachel has led workshops at international harp festivals, while also being a key figure in the burgeoning folk revival on the Isle of Man, where she teaches.

Guitarist Jenn has performed with the best of the Scottish traditional music scene, including Eddi Reader, Aly Bain and Phil Cunningham. She has been a member of the BBC Scotland house band at the Hogmanay show.

Jenn teaches on the Scottish Traditional Music course at the prestigious Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. She was Tutor of the Year at the 2015 Scottish Traditional Music Awards. Her bold, but respectful guitar playing, is a perfect match to her heartwarming delivery of songs.

The event is unlicensed, so bring your own refreshments and glasses. Tea, coffee and cakes are available at the interval. The evening begins at 8pm. Tickets are £ 10 from Dave on 01369 840404 or Lorna on 0789 997 8736. Advance tickets are recommended.
