Tri club go on swim trial

-

A record turnout of 40 took part in Ayrodynamic Tri Club’s latest swim time trial at Troon Pool.

Seven swimmers went under six minutes for the 400 metre test – that’s just 22 seconds for each of the 16 lengths of 25 metres – and a further 13 clocked times between six and seven minutes.

Tuning up for the race season was not confined to the pool as seven pairs of athletes signed up for the ‘ Ice Breaker’ – the two person cycling time trial organised on the Eglinton race circuit by Fullarton Wheelers CC.

First pair home on the 10 mile course were Colin Reilly and Alastair Stewart in 24.06 minutes, followed by Scott Gourlay and Gavin Kelly in 24.19.

Supervet Davie Auchie and vintage vet Grant Young completed the course in 25.41, just pipping the younger Auchie, Marc, and Tommy Turner by two seconds, giving dad Davie bragging rights in the Auchie household.

Lorna Sloan and Catherine Log clocked 26.17, Stewart McKinstray and Murray Wilson finished in 26.46 and Graeme Willie and Alan Hiddleston completed the club line- up in 27.09.

Davie Auchie ran the Eglinton Park Run finishing sixth of 175 runners in 19.46, while Emma Lunan was first female in 24 minutes. Alice Vernon continued her preparations for the Tri season with 54th in 26 minutes.

Two members club took part in the International Ice Swimming Championships at Fruin on Loch Lomond.

To qualify, water temperature must be below five degrees which Loch Lomond met at just under four and an air temperature of three.

Lucy Johnstone was first in the 100 metres in 3.15, while Annie Howie completed the 50 metres. Despite their bravery, neither woman was up to taking on the main event, the Ice mile! Maybe next year?
