Foster makes it a full set of titles

-

Paul Foster has become only the second man in history to hold the Scottish, British and World indoor singles titles at the same time.

The Prestwick player followed in the footsteps of Bob Sutherland in 1983 when he was crowned British Isles singles champion.

Foster beat Martin Spencer ( England) 21- 19 at Belfast Indoor after racing into an 18- 8 lead.

Spencer fought back to 20- 19 and lay the two he needed to claim the title but Foster delivered a knockout blow of his own to snatch the trophy.

Unfortunately, Paul couldn’t help the Scotland team claim the International Series at the weekend.

The series all came down to the last game between Scotland and England with England winning four out of the six rinks to claim the title 118- 112.

This weekend sees the Scottish semi- finals and finals at Aberdeen with Prestwick represented by Craig Lindsay and Paul Foster in the gents pairs and Darren Weir in the Under 18 singles.

Craig and Paul take on Elgin on Saturday afternoon and hope to book their place in Sunday’s final against either West Lothian or Lanarkshire.

Darren bids to win the Under 18 singles back to back.

He takes on Robert Hunter ( Alloa) on Sunday morning in the semi final with the winner playing the final at 2pm against either Carla Banks ( Garioch) or Dean Riva ( East Lothian).

There are still tickets available, £ 10 including a buffet, for the 60s night at the club on Saturday night. Call 01292 471454 to reserve them.

The annual cash bingo takes place on Friday, March 31 with all welcome.

The Bob Martin Fours is on Saturday, April 1 with still a few spaces left if anyone wishes to enter a team.
