Mecca Bingo in Ayr is treating customers to an extra special event a week on Saturday – to celebrate 50 years since opening its doors.

To mark the milestone, customers will enjoy a day of music and entertainment, as well as some celebratory cake in the form of an edible replica of the club.

Joining the party is the club’s long serving colleagues, who have shown true commitment over the years with a total of 180 years dedicated to Mecca Bingo Ayr between them.

The club, which was once a playhouse and hosted the likes Frank Sinatra in the 1950s, welcomes 1,700 customers through the door every week.

Celebrations will kick off from 11am in time for the afternoon session of bingo, featuring a £ 1,000 full house prize and a comedy gold performance from local comedian Barbie Buckfast, followed by an evening game of bingo to continue the party.

Chris Morrice, general manager at Mecca Ayr, said: “We’re proud to see how far the club has come since welcoming its first customers back in 1967.

“There’s always a fantastic atmosphere in the club with people of all ages coming to enjoy the fun and we can’t wait to get the party started.

“We want to celebrate five decades of Mecca Bingo in the area and what better way than to invite our regulars down for a party. We hope everyone enjoys the special atmosphere in the club this weekend. “

The club will also be hosting a range of celebrations in the week leading up to the big party including, free bingo on Monday evening and a big money prize on the Sunday night, with final house paying out £ 500.
