Big party is almost over
Maybole 500 enters final weeks
M a y b o l e ’ s celebrations to mark the 500th anniversary of the town being created a burgh are coming to a close.
On F r i d a y a n d Saturday evenings young people will be staging the ‘ Haunted Halls of Maybole’ at Maybole Castle. This event is for those aged 14+ as the organisers say it will be a “truly haunting, interactive experience”.

On Saturday and Sunday a flower festival is being held in St Oswald’s Church.
It will be opened by Maybole’s Gala King and Queen Liam Grant and Abi Bailey at 10.30am on Saturday.
It will close at 4pm and be open again on Sunday from 12.30- 5pm and is a free event.
Other events to come during August include a ‘ Night at the Castle’ on Saturday, August 19, from 10- 11pm.
Again created by local young people, this outdoor event at Maybole Castle will explain the town’s deep and rich history using music, song and dance.
From August 24- 26 there will be exhibitions in the town hall and the Carrick Centre. Local people have been contributing artefacts and memorabilia to the organisers Ice Cream Architecture, who will be in the former social work office in the High Street on Thursdays if anyone wants to hand anything in.
T h e e x h i b i t i o n s will display industrial equipment and a number of surprises as well as provide an opportunity for family history searches.
On August 25- 26 there will be an opportunity to visit Doctor Bike from 10am- 5pm when the local active travel hub will check out bicycles at the Greenside.
There will also be walking and bike tours round historical sites on both days, a new interpretation board and commemorative plaque will be unveiled and there will be a community meal and historical talk on interpreting heritage.
The final event will be the premiere of a short film showing all the events held during the Maybole 500 celebrations.
