Drama group toasts 45 successful years
A long- established drama group are on the lookout for new members as they get ready for their astonishing 45th season of performance.
Stewarton Drama Group will hold their open evening, aimed at recruiting new members and patrons, on Wednesday, August 9.
The evening is a great opportunity for anyone from across Ayrshire interested in any aspect of drama, theatre or the arts to find out more about how to get involved.
Last year was a tremendous success for the group, opening with a new members’ open evening in August 2016 which saw a boost in member numbers – many going on to give their debut performance for the group later in the year.
The group’s annual pantomime, Harry Potter and the Yellow Brick Road, played to packed houses in the Stewarton Area Centre in December. And later in the season group performed a memorable production of the hit comedy play Ladies Day in March.
President Alison Barr said: “We’d love to meet you if you are interested in any aspect of drama.
“Whether you fancy treading the boards, helping out backstage, building scenery, working on lights and sound, making props or costumes, singing and dancing in our pantomime chorus, or simply supporting the group by becoming a patron, come along and meet us on Wednesday, August 9.”
The open evening is available to anyone over the age of 18 with an interest in local theatre, and will be held at their premises on Stewarton’s Corsehillbank Street.
There will also be the chance to learn more about productions planned for the year ahead, beginning with murder mystery comedy thriller A Tomb With A View, directed by Nancy McPherson, which will be performed at the Stewarton Area Centre on Thursday, October 5 and Friday, October 6 at 7.30pm. If you don’t see yourself on stage, you can also become a patron of the awardwinning group for £ 30 a year.
Patronage earns you two tickets for each of their annual shows in the Stewarton Area Centre, a copy of the group’s monthly newsletter Cuelines and invitations to inthe house patrons’ performances.
