An angry man swung a hammer at council workers – because they disturbed his hangover.

Henry Lennox, 43, admitted behaving in a threatening manner towardstheslaterswhowere carrying out work on Manson Avenue in Prestwick.

He began shouting at them from a window – and turned sour out the blue, threateningtocomeand “set about” the men with the weapon.

They laughed the threats off, but when Lennox came down the stairs armed with a hammer they tried to make a quick getaway.

After first driving down a dead end, they reversed past Lennox to escape as he swungthehammerintheair. He managed to hit the back door of the van as they drove away, but didn’t cause any damage.

His defence agent told the court his client had a record, but that it had tapered off in recent years.

They added: “It perhaps gives you an insight into his way of life when you hear he was still in bed at noon nursing a hangover.

“He feels he has been targeted within the local community.”

SheriffJohnMontgomery ordered Lennox to carry out 120 hours of unpaid work within the next six months.

He will also be under supervision for 12 months, with a requirement to attend alcohol assessment as required.

The sheriff said: “Being in the house all the time and beingdependentonalcohol is not good for you.

“You need to learn how to deal with alcohol properly and the first step is to get out yourbedinthemorningand do some work.”
