Justice as rapist caged eight years
Victim Rebecca’s relieved at sentence
A rape victim has described her relief that her “depraved animal” ex is behind bars.
Rebecca Ramsay, 22, saw her former boyfriend Andrew Thomson jailed for eight years at the High Court for raping her and a 16- year- old girl.
The young mum, from Prestwick, said Thomson who still denies the crimes tried to have the last word as he was led away in handcuffs last week.
Rebecca who bravely waived d her right to anonymity mity to speak to the Post said: “I think hink eight years is good enough. h. He got as long as the Judge could d give him. When n he stood up in n the dock to go o downstairs he said something to me but I don’t know what it is. I feel better that he is in jail. I am glad it is all done with.” C o n v i c t e d d r u g dealer Thomson, 38, of Cunninghame Road, Prestwick, Ayrshire, will be monitored on licence in the community for five years after his release from prison. On sentencing Judge Bill Dunlop QC told Thomson said: “I’m anxious to protect the public. You represent a significant risk to women.” Judge Dunlop added: “It is a considerable concern conc you continue to deny the offences i n t h e f a c e o f t h e c cleares l t ev evidence.” A jur y e a r l i e r f o u n d Th Thomson g u i l t y o f repeatedly raping Rebecca, one charge of assaulting her and another of subjecting her to threatening and abusive behaviour. He was also convicted of raping and sexually assaulting a teenage girl while he was in a relationship with Rebecca.
The attacks took place at Prestwick addresses between June 2013 and August 2015.
Last month Rebecca told the Post how Thomson held her throat as he raped her and feared he would kill her.
After a terrible sex attack he ordered her to be downstairs in 10 minutes or he would do it again. Controlling Thomson decided what clothes she wore, who she socialised with and banned her from drinking alcohol unless he was present.
He had also crushed up diazepam tablets and put them in her can of juice and told her to give up her dental nurse job. Rebecca, studying social science at college, suffers panic attacks and anxiety.
Criminal Thomson had 22 separate previous convictions for the supply and possession of drugs, assault and underage sex with a girl.
Defence counsel Victoria Dow said: “Mr Thomson continues to deny the offences.” She added Thomson is in a relationship and his partner is standing by him.
