End of an era at Club

Over 21s set to party

- Lochlin Highet

Scotland’s oldest nightclub is set to close its doors this weekend after 28 years - but not forever.

We told last month that the iconic Club De Mar, on Arthur Street, suddenly shut its doors on the public.

But we can reveal that the owners of Furys nightclub on Nile Court are set to take over Club De Mar.

The club, a favourite of clubbers since 1989, will be holding a final ‘ Death of Club De Mar’ night this Saturday, October 28.

Steven Muir, Furys General Manager said: “The intention is to have one last great night at the Club De Mar.

“It will give everyone a chance to celebrate the massive success that it has been over the years.

“After Saturday, we will be closing for a few weeks to carry out a refurbishment, including a change of name.

“We will reveal more details in due course.”

The new club, along with Saturday’s closing night, will welcome only people 21 and over.

Steven explained: “We believe that there are a large number of people in Ayrshire who are looking for a clubbing experience with a slightly more mature feel to it.

“When we re- open after the refurbishment, we will have an over 21s only policy, so we thought it would be appropriate to start as we mean to go on.

“This weekend is about celebrating over 28 years of clubbing at Club De Mar, so most of the people who might attend should not be inhibited by this age restriction.”
