Remember absent friends

- Lochlin Highet

Residents across Carrick will be coming together next week to remember loved ones who have died.

It is part of To Absent Friends, a Scotland- wide festival of storytelling and remembrance and will take place on Sunday, November 5.

Groups including Crossraguel Community Choir, Maidens T- club, Maybole choir Hugh and Friends, and children from Maidens Primary School have put together an evening of music, songs and storytelling, led by musical director Liz Kelly, with a guest performance by soloist Adele Corns.

The celebratory community concert takes place at Kirkoswald Church, from 7pm, and will be accompanied by a photograph exhibition, also dedicated To Absent Friends.

Ian Stirling, the minister who has driven the project locally says: “It’s been a delight to see all the children from the primary school, visit Maidens Hall, and just listen to the members of the T- club share memories of their childhood.

“An old photograph of the class of 1935 prompted colourful stories and just brought the worthies alive. We were all reminded of the roots of our community - there was such a buzz.

“This project brings the generations together and is a fantastic way to keep the memories of our loved one alive.

“It’s also been great to offer a stage to two newly formed choirs, Crossraguel Community Choir and Maidens PS to come together and allow much loved music to inspire memories of loved ones.”
