Students fly high as they enjoy a day of European languages

- Belmont Academy

To celebrate the European Day of Languages, a number of Belmont Academy senior pupils attended at Prestwick Airport where SCILT had organised a Careers with Languages event called “Broaden your horizons with Languages”.

Pupils walked around themarketplaceandspoke to Gap Year companies and international students from UWS.

Then they heard talks from Easyjet pilot Captain Hugh Sheils, the bilingual Education Manager from Culzean and Mark Pentleton from Radio Lingua who did an introduction in eight different languages! The pupils loved hearing about what unusual languages they can learn and what they could do with them.

On Monday, October 2, the Belmont Academy History and English departments took their Advanced Higher pupils to the Glasgow University library for the day.

The trip helped the students get some useful research for their Dissertations. A total of four hours was spent at the library. Mr Marr, from the History department and MissGrantfromtheEnglish department accompanied the pupils during their day of research.

Belmont Academy has recently started a new club, cent red on music technology. This club originally took place on a Tuesday lunchtime, but gained popularity so quickly that it had to expand to take place two days a week.

The club involves teaching members how to effectively use the hardware and software involved in audio production. The end goal of the club is for the members, in teams to each create a five minute long radio show, with a winner being found based on whose show is the most popular. The club helps to develop valuable skills in its members which they may find useful later in life, which is part of why the club is so popular.

S2 Keira Long has just returned from The International Dance ChampionshipsinGlasgow where she made it to the semi- finals for Freestyle Dancing.
