Scary sights on the streets

-

It will be a spooktacular weekend as Tamfest returns to the streets of Ayr.

The weekend- long spectacular is bigger and better than before, with headline performances from Still Game duo Jane McCarry and Mark Cox and X Factor finalist Emily Middlemas.

Another highlight will be the haunted house experience in Ayr Town Hall, courtesy of War Cry Productions.

The team - Andrew Campbell, along with producer Toria Cassidy and assistant director Ameziane Campbell - specialise in theatrical productions which use Ayr’s historic buildings to create interactive and immersive experiences.

And drawing inspiration from horror greats such as George A Romero and Tobe Hooper, this year’s Ravenous event promises to be on the most popular with a “relentless and gruesome interactive horror movie” starring the audience as the lucky protagonists.

The grand old Town Hall in Ayr will be transformed into the end of the world, as the dead roam the streets with the last survivors barricaded inside the hall.

Producers promise what follows to be “a terrifying spiral into the worst parts of humanity”.

Ravenous brings audiences face- to- face with one of Scotland’s most notorious villains in a blood- soaked and visceral new take on the traditional Haunted House, leading audiences through an interactive horror experience that promises to startle, disturb and disgust.

The show runs on Friday between 5pm and 10pm, Saturday from 11am until 10pm, Sunday from 1pm until 9pm before returning on Tuesday from 5pm until 10pm and Wednesday from 5pm until 9pm. Shows stars on the hour, every hour.

On Saturday and Tuesday evenings, the producers will offer an extended run where the audience will be led on to a second venue for a horrifying take on the traditional Escape Room.

The Gaiety Theatre is also getting on the Hallowe’en fun, as it plays host to a variety of events across the weekend.

On Friday night, Blackeyed Theatre present their production of The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, hailed as “a finely- crafted adaptation that will keep you fastened to your seat” by the British Theatre Guide.

Saturday sees Zombie Science present spoof tutorials on the real science behind disease outbreak with Worst Case Scenario at 1pm and Brain Of The Dead at 3.30pm.

And the Zombie Science team return on Sunday for more spoof tales on how to deal with an invasion of brain- eaters in the Auld Toun.

Elsewhere, one of the highlights will undoubtedly be the Day o’ the Deid Procession along Ayr High Street from 3.45pm on Sunday, with faces painted in scary skull make- up making their down the street to the sound of street band SambaYaBamba.

Ahead of the procession, Emily Middlemas and Jane McCarry and Mark Cox will perform at the former Clydesdale Bank Building.
