Prestwick keep up perfect start

Gents team enjoy home win over Cowal

Prestwick gents kept up their 100 per cent start with a 86- 58 home win against Cowal.

Paul Foster, Craig Lindsay and Colin Smith all skipped their rinks to victories. The gents now travel to Whiteinch.

The seniors beat Cowal 11134 at home, with all four rinks recording easy victories to give the team their first two points.

The ladies made it three wins for the club, beating Ayr 64- 62 at Lothian Road. Betty Hainey and Wilma Ogilvie skipped their rinks to victory which helped the ladies claim their second victory.

This weekend Rebecca Houston faces Julie Forrest ( Teviotdale) in round one of the SIBA National Singles at Falkirk.

Also at Falkirk on Sunday, Darren Weir takes on Iain McLean from Blantyre in the last 16 of the SIBA Masters.

In the National 2 Bowl Pairs playdowns at Auchinleck, Craig Lindsay and Paul Foster beat Ayr 2- 1 before losing 2- 1 to Robert Gordon and Robert Grant from Lanarkshir­e.

Alison Granger and Jill West beat Ayr 2- 0 before losing to Wendy Grant and Lawra Cox of Ardrossan 1.5- 0.5.

Auchinleck gents made it two wins from two when they beat Whiteinch 98- 54.

Scores: G Johnstone 19, J Allan 15;D McClue 18, G Greenhorn 16; D Ferguson 35, P Murray 10; C Johnston 26, T Ward 13.

The seniors beat Cumbernaul­d 66- 59. Scores: S Moore 6, J Wilson 23; W McArthur 11, J Smith 17; J Fleming 28, J Breen 9; E Duncan 21, T Turnbull 10.

The ladies lost 92- 62 away to East Kilbride. Scores: J Williamson 17, CC ross 22; S Robertson 13, G Knotman 32; J Sykes 14, L Hall 19; H Kay 18, B Hayes 19.

In the SIBA 2 bowl pairs playdowns at Auchinleck, Josephine Williamson and Bunty Mackin beat Paisley 13- 1 and 10- 5.

They then beat Blantyre 9- 5, 10- 2 before losing 2- 10, 8- 10 to Ardrossan.

On Saturday, the seniors host West of Scotland from 11am to 2pm. Rink 1: W Bell, D Weir, S Graham, E Duncan; Rink 2: D Monaghan, W Dalgleish, D Mitchell, S Moore; Rink 3: J Sloan, J McCracken, R Dunsmuir, J Fleming; Rink 4: D Jagowdowsk­i, C Provan, W McLatchie, W McArthur.

The gents are away to Dumbarton from 2- 6pm.

Maureen Shimmons represents Auchinleck in the SIBA Singles Playdowns at Falkirk against Elgin. Play continues on Sunday.

On Sunday , D e re k Ferguson plays John Orr in the playdowns of Gents Scottish Masters at Falkirk. The last two players at this venue will play the final during the Scottish Open in Perth. Baird Bowl: 11am to 1pm: Cumnock v Auchinleck Outdoor; Mauchline v Glaisnock Valley.

Ayr gents lost 108- 47 away to West of Scotland. Scores: D Hutchinson 24, J C Davidson 12; J Ross 28, P Shields 10; G McDougall 19, J Cuthbertso­n 14; S O’Donnell 37, S Christie 11. The gents now entertain Balbardie.

The seniors lost 61- 53 at Coatbridge and now host Allander.

Ayr ladies lost 62- 64 at home to Prestwick. Scores: M McCubbin 12, W Ogilvie 24; M Jess 11, B Hainey 18; J Arnott 18, J Bunyan 11; V O’Neill 21, M Rogers 11.

The ladies league takes a break for the National Singles playdowns with Ayr’s Frances Fisher against Sarah Ewing ( Headwell) at Falkirk on Saturday at 10am.
