GIVE ME AN AYR TON
Century man Moffat sets Honest Men target
Hot shot Michael Moffat has set himself a new target – scoring 100 goals for Ayr.
The striker joined the century club with a hat- trick in the 5- 0 romp at Forfar, the FIFTH game this season Ayr have hit five or more.
But only 75 of his 102 senior goals have come as an Honest Man with the others netted in a three- season stint at Dunfermline.
Moffat, 32, spoke of his huge relief at finally breaking the barrier after going seven games without a goal. He told the Post: “It took a few weeks to get there so I’m glad it’s done now. Maybe the manager will stop going on about it!
“It was probably preying on my mind a bit but it was more other people who kept mentioning it and asking when I was going to get it done.
“Now it’s out of the way hopefully I can go on a wee run. I was working out that I’m now on 75 for Ayr so it would be nice to get 100 for the club.
“I’m here this season and next before my contract runs out so the 100 is a definite aim.
“There are a lot of goals in this squad and now that everyone is fit, the manager has lots of options.
“You know you need to be on your game or somebody else will be playing.”
Moff proudly clutched the match ball as a souvenir before being shouted over for a celebration photo with a group of diehard travelling fans.
He laughed: “My two- yearold son Luca is now kicking the ball around the house.
“The celebrations were pretty low key. It was after 8pm before I got home from Forfar so I just had something to eat and then spent some time with the wee man.”
Moff can vividly remember his first goal for Ayr and curiously it too was scored in a 5- 0 away win in March 2011.
He recalled: “It came at Airdrie when Brian Reid was the manager. I signed in January and went six or seven games without scoring.
“Then I got the third goal when I rounded the keeper and put the ball in the empty net.
“That was the start of my Ayr scoring career. Now I hope there are plenty more to come.”
Boss Ian McCall is backing Moff to hit the century with Ayr.
He quipped: “One of his 102 goals was against Ayr for Dunfermline so I’m not having the big celebration yet.
“I’m going to wait until he gets 100 for Ayr and I would like to think he’ll do it by the end of next season.”
