Talk of the town from our social media

Last week’s front page told of plans that could see chemotherapy services axed at Ayr Hospital.

Marina Andrew said: “If they close Ayr they are making an already stressful time for patients even worse!

“Some people don’t have people to drive them. How are they supposed to get there?

“Please do not close an extremely valuable service.”

And Helen Marshall added: “People obviously don’t realise the stress that cancer patients go though on a daily basis. When I had to have chemotherapy it was a small blessing that I only had to travel for ten minutes to Ayr Hospital.”

Alison Wood said: “The chemotherapy service clearly needs to be provided to a high standard by the right staff but it needs to be in the right place.”

Our report on the Ayr’s Craft and Harbour chippy closing days before it was nominated for a top award proved popular.

Karen Muldoon said: “They should have left it as the popular pub it was.”

Helen McGill commented: “I don’t think there was enough advertising for the place and the prices were too high if they had put a couple of boards outside with prices and menus and perhaps specials that may have helped. Not in a great location.”

And Jamie Marshall- Watt added: “Really enjoyed a few meals there, but as others have said, it was like one of Ayr’s best kept secrets. Word of mouth only goes so far.”

We exclusively reported that Prestwick Airport chief executive Ron Smith was to stand down - and you had your say.

Jim Wallace commented: “It’s a disgrace. One airline airport. Not like the old days.”

Sandra Wood added: “Well as it’s been proved Scottish Government ain’t running it right. Sell it to Trump – at least he will upgrade it and there will be jobs available. .”

And Stephen Connell said: “The car park out the front should be short stay, no fee, and encourage the locals to come and shop and eat in the airport and support the businesses inside it.”

Plans to bring Costa coffee to Prestwick created a debate.

Darren Ravie said: “Oh well if nothing else another 12 people or so will be in a job!

“End of the day if you lot in Prestwick don’t want it then don’t use it.”

And Sara Walker said: “Surely better a Costa than having a building lying empty.”
