Talk of the town from our social media

-

Our front page story last week showed that the drink- drive figures are on the RISE.

Paul Tumulty said: “No excuses, don’t drink and drive.

“Too many accidents with innocent people hurt – or worse. Grow up leave the keys alone. Use public transport or taxis!”

Thomas Merry said: “Until punishment fits the crime some drivers will continue to break the law by driving whilst under the influence, risking innocent people’s lives as well as their own.”

John J Gilfillan said: “And they say OAPs are the safest to insure!

“Yet the 17- 21 year olds are punished. “Take their licence off them.” Neil Fisher said: “I thought an automated ban would be a deterrent for the most, but obviously not.” We told that Kingcase Primary bagged an award for food standards – and many weren’t surprised.

Allison Baillie said: “Well done ladies you are brilliant and so good with the children.

“My son is coeliac and they make sure he eats the food that he should have – so well done.”

Helen Weir said: “Well done ladies you are doing an amazing job.”

Marlene Gimson said: “Well done ladies, best wee school.” S o u t h A y r s h i r e Conservative leader Martin Dowey was the latest top name added to our campaign against cutting lollipop men and women.

The news didn’t impress some. Conway McBride Bobby said: “It was the Tories who brought welfare reforms back, increased foodbank use, sick and disabled going hungry, put through hell of health assessments, robbed our pensions.

“Tories have brought GB down on its knees.”

Craig Murray said: “Because the Tories are real social justice warriors.” Council rents are set to rise and that got folks talking.

James Smith said: “Why don’t the council charge you rent for the area you live in?

Why should I pay same rent for a top floor flat as the same as folk in houses in Doonfoot or all these new build houses?”

James Mackie said: “So that will mean we will get up to date double glazing in the council bungalows in Knockroon Lane, Auchinleck?

“We will freeze over before hell and these are old people.”

Patricia Workman said: “Will wait and see how long till they get a pay raise. “That’s why rent is going up.” Hugh O ’ P r a y s a i d : “Councillors need to fund their salary rises.”
