The final of the The Stairhill A. S Gents Invitation fours at Auchinleck Indoor was a thriller – and wasn’t decided until an extra end.

Winners were Stewart Anderson, Ian McLean, John Strachan and Greg McLauchlin ( Blantyre) who beat Cameron Wilson, Grant Hamilton, Steven Caldwell and Alistair McLelland ( Galleon) by one shot in an extra end ( see picture above).

In the semi- finals, Anderson’s team beat Derek McClue while Wilson beat Stuart Gemmell. Thanks to John and Jean Mair for their continued sponsorshi­p.

A total of 24 rinks took part in the round robin tournament.

The club re- opens on Wednesday, January 3 at 10am with an open triples, sponsored by CISWF.

This weekend sees the SIBA National Gents, Ladies and Junior Singles semi - inals and finals at Blantyre.

On Saturday, the junior section will play the Triples Championsh­ips from 2pm while the second session of the Baird Bowl starts with Cumnock v Auchinleck Indoor and Galston v Mauchline from 11am to 1pm. BRIDGE January is jam packed for keen players. The home nations compete in the Camrose in Northern Ireland – watch the play on Bridge Base Online.

On Saturday, January 13, the revitalise­d 300 Club pairs takes place at the Bridge Centre. If you’re not yet a member you can join on the day for just over £ 1 a month.

The Ayrshire Bridge Union heat of the Tourney cup, teams of four, is on Wednesday, January 17. For the first time, there will be additional prizes for the highest ranked Silver and Bronze teams.

The Improvers class is back on Friday, January 26 when Gordon Smith gives the talk. No need to pre- enter. 1.30pm start at the Bridge Centre, no partner required.
