Roundabout road rage driver is fined

- Sarah Hilley

A road rage motorist has been fined £ 300 for cutting in on front of a driver on the approach to Ayr’s Whitletts Roundabout.

Pushy George Hunter forced his way into Natalie Wood’s lane.

The 52- year- old then slammed on his brakes forcing Ms Woods to take evasive action to avoid smashing into the rear of his Polo.

Depute fiscal Lindzi Bayne said Ms Woods had been driving from Asda towards Whitletts when Hunter butted in.

Miss Bayne said Ms Woods noticed Hunter’s white Volkswagen Polo indicating to get into her lane.

But the fiscal said Ms Woods had nowhere to go as the next lane had oncoming traffic.

Miss Bayne continued: “She sounded her horn to let the accused know she was there.” Hunter responded by pulling in sharply in front and then braked, Miss Bayne told Ayr Sheriff Court last week.

Ms Woods contacted the police after the road rage incident.

Solicitor Tony Currie said Hunter was heading back to Girvan from Ayr.

The solicitor said his client had indicated to move out of the left lane into the other carriageway before the incident.

Mr Currie said: “It seems out of character for him.”

Hunter, of North Drive, Girvan, admitted driving without due care or attention or without consideration for others and failing to observe proper lane discipline on September 23 last year.

He pled guilty to overtaking on the nearside and re entering the carriageway in too close proximity to another vehicle and braking when not necessary near to Low Road.

He was given six points.
