OIR AGM

Troon OIR held its AGM in Portland Church Hall on April 11. Chairman Moira Stone welcomed a large number of members.

In her report she highlighte­d the successful outings taken during the past year. A raffle at the Christmas lunch at the Auchans, Dundonald, raised £ 500 for Irvine Cancer Care.

Following the treasurer’s report it was proposed by Florence McGlasson that the annual sub be raised to £ 15 and the weekly fee for activities in the church hall be raised to £ 2. This was agreed unanimousl­y. The group hopes to widen the variety of activitioe­s by introducin­g arts and crafts and photograph­y if there is enough interest. Malcolm Campbell, leader of the table tennis group, reported that Table Tennis Scotland has donated four new tables to Troon OIR. The existing tables are in a very poor state.

Elizabeth Fisher, membership secretary Jill Holmes. Florence McGlasson announced her retiral from the post of treasurer and Sam Elliot was voted unanimousl­y as the new treasurer. Erica Williamson was voted on to the committee. Raymond Howes thanked the committee for all their hard work and Moira Stone presented gifts to retiring members of the committee and leaders of activities.

Craft fair

A craft fair in aid of Alzheimer’s Research UK will be held in Portland Church Hall on Saturday, April 28, from 10am until 2pm. Stalls include home baking, raffle and face painting. Tea and coffee will be served. Entry costs £ 1, kids go free.

Open for bookings

A readers’ afternoon will be held in Troon Library on Sunday, April 22, from 2pm to 5pm. Authors Douglas Skelton, Pat Young and Michael J Malone will talk about their books, their inspiratio­n and approach to writing. The cost is £ 7, which includes a cream tea. Book at the library.

Spring concert

Troon Chorus are holding their spring concert in St Meddan’s Parish Church on Saturday, April 21, at 7.30pm. Tickets, priced £ 8 (£ 4 under 18), can be purchased from Words and Music and choir members.

Third age

Ayr U3A is hosting an open day at Troon Library on Thursday, April 26, from 10am to 4pm for the retired or nearly there. It is part of the University of the Third Age network. Contact 07434 747807 or email AyrU3a@ gmail. com.

Travel talk

The next meeting of Troon Arthritis Group will be held in St Meddan’s Church Hall at 2pm on Wednesday, April 25. ‘ Travel in Film’ is the subject for the afternoon and Douglas Fraser will show a film and give a talk on his recent travels. Tea is served at the close of the meeting.
