Students shaking up success in hospitality
A group of young unemployed people from Ayrshire have graduated from an awardwinning training programme.
Diageo’s ‘ Learning for Life’ equipped 14 students with the required skills to embark on careers in the hospitality industry.
The students celebrated completing the six- week training course with a special ceremony held at Ayrshire College on Tuesday, March 27.
As part of their training, the students undertook two weeks of work experience with some of Ayrshire’s leading restaurants, hotels and bars including Trump Turnberry, 7 Saints Bar & Burger Kitchen, Ayr Racecourse and Hotel Kylestrome Bar & Grill.
Pauline Scott, Ayrshire College Learner Engagement Officer for Diageo Learning for Life, said: “It’s an exciting day for our Ayrshire College students who have been working incredibly hard for the last six weeks.
“The course has provided them with seven industry recognised qualifications, strong practical skills and increased confidence in their abilities and ambitions.”
Diageo Learning for Life graduate Kirsty Mcghee, 18, from Ayr spoke on behalf of the group at the graduation ceremony.
She said: “The course has offered a great opportunity for training and personal development, and has been a real benefit to me.
“I’ve enjoyed the past six weeks of learning and would recommend the programme to anyone looking to step into the hospitality career ladder.”
