It was heartache for Ayr Storm basketball U16 men when they fell at the semi- final stage to Glasgow Rocks in the SLBA Cup, losing 63- 58.

It was a tight game with Ayr edging the first period 1312 but Rocks took period two to lead by three at the half time break.

Period three was another where neither team could be separated but a final shot gave it to Rocks by a point.

The Ayr side suddenly found themselves 12 behind in the final quarter but with a minute to go rallied and put the pressure on Rocks.

But it turned out to be too late and Rocks held on for the win.

The men’s first team continued their improved end of season form when Lockerbie Tornadoes visited for an SLBA division 1 fixture.

Led by 32pts from Dan Bajwoluk the Ayr men ran out comfortable 82- 69 winners against a team that in the earlier away game they had been badly beaten by.

The school break meant a chance for the younger members of Ayr Storm Basketball club to take part in a three- day holiday basketball camp run by coaches Chris Morrison and Laura Nisbet and in the mornings helped by members of the clubs U16 squads.

Each morning boys and girls from the U8, U10 and U12 sections worked on their basketball skills and then played 4v4 games to put what they learned into practice. Ten clubs will contest the traditional season opener, The Ayrshire Junior Team Championship, at Skelmorlie Golf Club on Sunday, April 22.

Emma Kay also competed at this level and despite a difficult day rallied well and will learn from the experience as she moves forward.

Ariela Baya performed beautifully in the Compulsory Grade 5 and came fifth overall, conquering a lot of her competition nerves.

Robyn Pow came sixth in the National Prep 5 producing a consistent lovely set of routines.

Lucy Bain was Dundonald’s first gymnast to take on the National Grade 1 and did a great job scoring over 55 and gaining a certificate.
