Youngster shows his cycling style

Ayr Roads/ Harry Fairbairn Cycling Club’s own pocket rocket clinched another podium place on Sunday at Dundee’s Caird Park track meeting.

Alloway schoolboy Ollie Kelly, competing under the colours of Johnstone Jets, took a well earned second place in the Omniun event.

This event covers five races, including the explosive Sprint.

The track meeting was the first round of British Cycling Youth series, which comprises of events all over the country, before the finals later in the year.

Meanwhile, young Iain Fisher found himself up against Scotland’s top roadmen when he competed in the 85 mile Drummond Trophy Road Race on the same day.

He enjoyed the experience of the race and is looking forward to another road race at Peebles next weekend.

Nearer to home, Thursday night’s club 10 mike time trial was hampered by a bitter cold northerly wind which played havoc with individual times.

Some times were nearly two minutes slower from the week before.

The times were: Calum MacDonald 23.13; Harry Brawley 24.38; Scott Knox 25.15; Bobby McGhee 26.35; John Gemmell 26.52; Iain Fisher 27.27; Archie Arthur 29.12.

On the leisure scene, club members on the midweek run recorded a 60 mile run.

While two groups clocked up similar distances on the Sunday run taking in East Ayrshire roads by Sinclairston, Patna and Dalmellington, before crossing over by the hill road to Straiton and back by the Ballycoach climb to Dalrymple and home roads.
