‘ Ford put one foot in final

- Gary Kirkpatrick

Hurlford came through the first leg of their Scottish Cup semi- final unscathed with a narrow victory against Wishaw Juniors.

It was a scrappy encounter at the Beltane, as the ‘ Ford took one of their only chances of the match to take a small lead to Blair Park this weekend.

Wishaw have every right to feel aggrieved following the game, as they had a goal disallowed for offside, cutting short the wild celebrations around the ground.

The home side saw numerous chances go begging in the second half as they sought an equaliser.

But the Ford rode their luck and managed to limp over the finish line with an advantage.

Hurlford boss Darren Henderson was delighted with the result, with Danny Mitchell’s strike sealing the win but admitted the overall performance wasn’t up to scratch.

He said: “It was a funny old game. At the end of the day, we’re going down the road with a victory, which I’m delighted with.

“If you told me that this morning before we came up, I would have taken it.

“We were in total control in the first half and we created a lot of chances.

“It was a good finish from Danny and a well worked goal.

“I was a wee bit disappointed the way we finished the game though.

“We sat too deep and invited Wishaw onto us and they gave us problems.

“We just need to draw or win to get through to another Scottish Junior Cup final.” • Hurlford are in their fourth Junior

Cup semi- final in five years.

They last won the trophy in 2014 after beating Glenafton 3- 0.
