seven south ayrshire councillors were given the power to determine one of ayr’s biggest planning decisions in decades. and after hours of objections, they delivered their verdict in clear- cut style. tories Mary Kilpatrick, Margaret toner, peter Convery and Iain Fitzsimmons joined with Craig Mackay ( sNp), Ian Cavana ( labour) and planning chairman Brian Connolly ( Independent) to slam the door shut.
Cllr Convery said: “the first time I saw the Renaissance plans, I was over the moon.
“looking at this now, it’s very difficult to say I have any confidence in the synergy between the new build and where it will sit. It is a building that does nothing for me.”
Cllr Mackay, right, added: “It could have been more ambitious and is certainly a missed opportunity that we don’t have a better design.”
a motion put forward by Cllr Kilpatrick to refuse the application was unanimously backed by all members of the panel.
