- Abi Smillie

A thug has been found guilty of punching a man unconscious and leaving him permanently impaired.

Samuel Bone, 34, of Ballochmyle Avenue in Auchinleck repeatedly punched William Henderson on July 8 last year leaving him unconscious, severely injured and with a permanent impairment.

Ayr Sheriff Court heard Mr Henderson, 60, had to receive 21 stitches to the front and inside of his lip and hasn’t shaved since the incident.

He also told the court part of his top lip is left ‘ numb’ after the assault.

The court heard the incident occurred after Mr Henderson asked Bone to put his dogs on a lead when they appeared at his front gate where his dogs were.

Henderson was on his way to a dog training event in Fife and was placing his four German Shepherds in the car.

Bone left after words were exchanged but appeared a short time later challenging Mr Henderson to a fight, who recalled replying: “Away up the road and don’t be so stupid.”

The victim said Bone then grabbed him by the throat and threw a punch to which he tried to defend himself.

The court heard Mr Henderson fell over a wall and was unconscious.

He attended hospital where he needed 21 stitches to the front and inside of his lip and had grazing and bruising.

Bone was found guilty of assaulting Mr Henderson by pushing him, repeatedly punching him on the head and body whereby he was rendered unconscious, all to his severe injury and permanent impairment.

The diet was adjourned for social work reports and Bone will attend at a later hearing for sentencing.
