Portland Church annual Gardening Day in in the hall on Saturday May 26, 10am- noon. The long winter has delayed growth so there is still plenty of time to get those bedding plants in. There’s a range of perennial plants, vegetables, plugs, cuttings and seedlings. The end of May is the right time to plant out hanging baskets. Tea, coffee and baking.

The May meeting of the Astronomer­s of the Future Club will be held in the Railway Club, Harbour Road, Troon on Wednesday May 31, 7.15pm to 9pm. Guest Speaker is Chris O’Kane, Astronomic­al Society, Glasgow, and his subject is “Journey to Cydonia: The First Small Step. Visitors welcome.

A Regatta will be held on Troon South Beach on Saturday June 2 from 11am.

Ayrshire Cycling Festival leaves Troon on Saturday June 9 and Sunday June 10. There will be short organised rides, free bike check, a Treasure Hunt and much more. On Sunday there will be a 50k Ayrshire Explorer ride and Park Rides for children aged from 4 to 8 years. Meet at Scout Hall.

The Astronomer­s of the Future Club meet on Thursday May 31, 7.15pm- 9pm at the Barassie Works Club in Shore Road. Speaker is Chris O’Kane, of the Astronomic­al Society of Glasgow and the Society for Planetary SETI, talking about the Face on Mars controvers­y of the 1980s and 90s.

The ESOL Chat Cafe at Seagate Church, West Portland Street will continue until Friday June 8 from 10am- noon.

Troon OIR hosts a Movies Afternoon in Portland Church Hall on Wednesday May 30 at 2pm. The movie is “Their Finest”. Donation of £ 2 including refreshmen­ts.

Ayr Salvation Army Community Choir are giving a concert in Troon Concert Hall on Sunday June 3 at 6pm. They will be accompanie­d by the West of Scotland Youth Band, Conductor Chris Shanks. Admission free. Donations to RNLI.
