Training puts airport safety first
Officials at Prestwick have joined airports across the UK in taking part in the third Airports Safety Week.
The initiative, co- ordinated by the Airport Operators Association ( AOA) and supported by UK regulator, the Civil Aviation Authority ( CAA), is aimed at demonstrating commitment to safety achievement, innovation, development and learning.
Colleagues were able to learn essential lifesaving skills by taking part in training sessions that included how to administer CPR as well as operate the airport’s defibrillators.
Other activities included airfield safety tours and an airside equipment safety demonstration involving a Bristow’s Search and Rescue helicopter, along with the airport’s own fire tenders and de- icing rig.
Jules Matteoni, director operations, said: “Safety is at the core of successfully running our day- to- day operations and this week- long initiative offers all colleagues an ideal opportunity to learn vital lifesaving skills as well as see different business areas demonstrate the importance of safety within their environments.
“We’ve been delighted to once again support the AOA’s UK Airports Safety week and to raise awareness, educate and improve knowledge and enthusiasm for safety amongst all airport colleagues.”
