Wedding fever is set to continue with a special display of bridal gowns on show next month.

The exhibit Wedding Dresses Through the Decades will be available at The Auld Kirk of Ayr on Blackfriars Walk - with the earliest bridal gown deriving from 1879.

Church member Janet Stirling came up with the idea as a quirky fundraiser for the church.

She said: “I saw it in a life and work magazine and thought that would be a good idea to do.

“I’ve got a team of four helpers who have helped source dresses and accessories.

“All of the dresses have some connection to the church - one might be a member’s dress or their daughters.

“The earliest dress is from 1879 and it belonged to one of the member’s husband’s grandmother.

“It’s dark green with a little jacket and beautiful detailing on the back so I want to display that somewhere where everyone can see it.”

Janet, who lives in Doonfoot, has secured 15 dresses to display and even sourced mannequins from a shop to exhibit them on.

Her own bridal gown from 1966 will be on show.

The display will take place on Friday June 8 and Saturday June 9 from 10am - 4pm.

A suggested donation of £ 3 will be required which includes a tea or coffee and a slice of wedding cake.

All money raised will be going towards church funds to help them continue their support for others.
