shamed councillor Julie Dettbarn was a rising star in the sNp-led administration.

Council leader Douglas Campbell gave her the responsibility of the health and social care portfolio with his administration.

In the run up to last May’s council elections, Ms Dettbarn was promoted as one of the sNp’s first four women to enter the fray as the party launched a genderbalanced assault on south ayrshire Council.

along with ayr West councillor siobhian Brown, ayr North councillor laura Brennan-Whitefield and troon candidate annie McIndoe, she was unveiled as the first of the new crop bidding for seats at this May’s election.

at the time of the elections, Councillor Dettbarn revealed that she had lived in Kyle for more than 20 years and lived just outside tarbolton with her partner and their two primary school-aged granddaughters. In the council’s register of interests, she says that she owns a home in East ayrshire.

she had worked in health and social and said as long term resident of Kyle, she had first-hand knowledge of local issues.

at the time, she was the secretary/ treasurer of the sNp’s Kyle Branch and their delegate to the Constituency association and liaison Committee.

In May 2017, she was elected to the Kyle ward at the fourth stage after receiving 807 first preference votes.
