Seven bidders fail interview for Marr’s top job

-

Seven hopefuls for one of the top education jobs in South Ayrshire were all less than magnificent.

We can reveal seven candidates were interviewed for the £72,804 headmaster job at Marr College.

But ALL were judged not good enough by the interviewing panel, which included parent representatives.

Education bosses are holding out for a supreme replacement for retiring Elaine McGregor-Sloman who departs at the end of the month after seven years in charge.

And one source said:“The school deserves somebody who is fit for purpose to take Marr into the future.

“I think it is admirable the brakes have been put on the recruitment process until a real leader is found.

“Everyone associated with the school is hoping an outstanding candidate comes out of the woodwork.”

The interviews were held last Tuesday for the top job at the showpiece £35m Marr.

They were trying to lure a head with “vision, drive, energy and commitment to continue to improve the school.”

The department is now going back to the drawing board and will re-start the process after the summer, leaving the school headless.

A South Ayrshire Council spokesman said:“While we value and welcome all applicants for posts in our schools it’s important to get the right blend of experience and ambition for Marr College.

“On this occasion we felt it best to re-advertise. An acting head teacher will be in post from August and a fresh recruitment process started in the new term.”
