Cabinet to meet in Cumnock

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon and her cabinet will meet in Cumnock on Monday to celebrate the Year of Young People.

Cabinet secretarie­s will take part in a full day of events in and around the town, joined by members of East Ayrshire Council’s Children and Young People Cabinet and local school pupils, culminatin­g in a public discussion at Cumnock Town Hall led by the First Minister.

The Cumnock event is the latest in a series of more than 45 Cabinet meetings in towns and cities across Scotland, including Aberdeen, Alloa, Cupar, Dumfries, Greenock, Inverness, Oban and Ullapool.

Ms Sturgeon said: “This is an opportunit­y for me and my Cabinet to meet local residents, community groups and businesses in Cumnock and East Ayrshire as we mark the Year of Young People.

“I would encourage everyone in the local community, but especially young people, to attend our discussion at Cumnock Town Hall. The Year of Young People 2018 is a global first and I look forward to meeting young people from Cumnock to hear about their achievemen­ts, talents and the issues that really matter to them.

“Of course people of all ages are welcome – this government is open and transparen­t and will take on board the thoughts and concerns of everyone living and working in the Cumnock area.”
