Air Commodore Colin S Cadell, chairman of Prestwick Airport Consultative Committee, has expressed concern a runway longer than 8500 feet - as proposed at Glasgow’s Airport at Abbotsinch - would attract all operators at present using Prestwick and Scotland would lose its best airport.
He said a runway beyond 8500 feet would be a waste of national resources in view of the 9800ft available at Prestwick.
AC Cadell also claimed Prestwick was the only airport suitable for receiving Concorde.
