Council leader accused of blocking CAB

Ayrshire Post - - Prestwick News -

You would like to think being only one of three Scottish local councils NOT to have a Citizens Advice Bureau would be some kind of embarrassment

Not to South Ayrshire Council, of course. And not to leader Douglas Campbell who has maybe decided his face can’t get any redder anyway!

Mr Campbell isn’t just the stumbling block – he is the ONLY block to the area having a truly independent CAB. As one councillor told me, “I’m all for it – we all are. Put it in a motion and I’ll vote for it. But it will never get to a vote as long as Campbell is in charge”.

MSP Jeane Freeman – Scotland’s health secretary – has also failed in her attempts to broker any discussion on the subject. “I regret to inform you that ( Mr Campbell) is adamant in his stated position” she says in a letter to CAB campaigner John Dunlop.

And this from the party that SUPPORTS independent advice services! So – is that it?

South Ayrshire has no CAB service just because one man says so?

Can anyone shift Mr Campbell from his “stated position”? Maybe it’s a job for the LEADER of the party that supports independent advice services. And the leader of the country? Does anyone have Nicola Sturgeon’s number?

Oh . . wait a minute . . . its right here in my old Daily Record contacts book!
