Children on both sides of the Atlantic have been enthralled by the antics of the Tartan Witch by Ayrshire writer Greta Yorke.

Now she is coming to a book sale to be held in Troon Old Parish Church Hall on Monday December 10 from 10.15am until 12.45pm. The organisers are delighted to welcome Greta along with illustrato­r Maggie Bolton.

There will be child and adult books and authors including Val Penny, Kerri Noor and Martin Bone will be present for signing.

This Saturday ( Oct 27) a free boot sale takes place at Ivy Cottage on South Beach. From 9am- 2pm .

Memories and anecdotes about Troon will be welcome from anyone who has lived in Troon all their life. Hand in to Church of the Nazarene on Wednesday October 31 from 1pm to 4pm.

Carry on Sleuthing – A Death on the Ocean Wave - a live performanc­e will be given in Troon Library on Wednesday, November 14 , at 7pm. The cast read the script as if on radio. Not to be missed, booking is essential.

Tickets cost £ 8 from the library.

The next meeting of Troon Flower Club will take place in the Walker Hall on October 31. Pauline Todd, from Newton Stewart, will demonstrat­e “Variety is the Spice of Life”.

Visitors very welcome.

Hansel Ladies Lunches – will be held at Lochgreen House Hotel from October 21- 25.

Tickets at £ 35 includes coffee and shortbread; an opportunit­y to browse the many stalls selling merchandis­e of a very high quality; a three course lunch with wine and a Fashion Show from September Skies.

The Troon Food Bank is needing supplies of tinned meat and fish, vegetables and main meals.

Collection point in Troon Old Church Room 2, Tuesdays and Fridays 12noon until 2pm.

Troon Arthritis Care hold their next meeting on Wednesday October 24 at 2pm in St Meddan’s Church Hall. Carol Drummond will talk about Dumfries House and the on- going developmen­t work.

Tea is served at the close of the meeting. All welcome.

Loans SWI Vice President Janette Haempel opened the first meeting and welcomed everyone after the summer break.

The speaker for the evening was Harry Richards from Scottish Wildlife Trust who gave a most interestin­g talk on the work the Trust was carrying out locally. The competitio­ns were three Shortbread Fingers Ist Morag Gilmour, 2nd Babs Fergusson and Floral Arrangemen­t in a Tin Can 1st Janette Haempel, 2nd Morag Gilmour, 3rd Babs Fergusson. Hostess for the evening was Maureen Clark.

The next meeting will be held in Loans Village Hall on October 26 at 7.30pm. Caroline Barr will be demonstrat­ing Glass Painting and the competitio­ns are Microwave Dumpling and Homemade Halloween Mask. All will be made most welcome.
