Patersons are in the PINK

Fun tractor campaign raises a fortune

- Lochlin Highet

A heavy duty plant machinery company has raised an incredible £ 80,000 for charity.

John M Paterson in Kirkoswald started fundraising in November last year for Breast Cancer Care following the purchase of a bright pink tractor.

Jock and his wife Karen hired out the tractor to customers in Ayrshire, Dumfries and Galloway, across Scotland and as far afield as Ireland and England.

Their firm hires and sells agricultural trucks, tractors and dumpers from their base at Kirkoswald Sawmill.

They also asked customers to pay for an advert to be put on the side of the tractor which most of his customers were happy to do.

They started by thinking they might raise £ 5,000 but they raised that amount really quickly so increased the total to £ 35,000.

Support for their fundraising was so great and they really got the fundraising bit between their teeth so that amount went up to £ 50,000. But it didn’t end there.

Their final fundraising effort was to sell a new mini digger at an auction in Selby in August.

They counted up the final total of £ 80,000 and presented a cheque to Breast Cancer Care.

Karen said: “We would like to thank everyone who has supported us during our campaign, especially our customers and friends who have given so generously.

“A special thanks must go to the Keys family of Euro Auctions Ltd and their staff for their efforts in marketing the sale of the excavator and to their customers who also helped to boost the fund.”

Angela Harris, Head of Scotland at Breast Cancer Care said: “We are blown away by the efforts of everyone at John M Paterson.

“I know that they have worked incredibly hard this year to raise the vital funds to help anyone with breast cancer.”
