Walking to raise cash for charity

-

More than 80 walkers took part in the first ever Prestwick Twilight Walk in memory of a popular Prestwick woman who died from a brain tumour.

They put their best foot forward in the 5K walk along Prestwick’s Seafront to raise awareness and funds as a tribute to Viv Mcbeth who died last year.

Long- time supporter of The Brain Tumour Charity and living with a brain tumour herself, Heather Dearie, was key in organising the event.

She said the event was a huge success

“Everyone seemed to really enjoy themselves, so we’re already thinking about doing it again next year.” she added.

“We are delighted with the response to this event and thank you to the Prestwick Sailing Club for having us, Sainsbury’s for providing the chocolate and all our friends and family for helping us run the event on the day.

“Each of us are walking for our own reasons but for me personally, I wanted to organise this in honour of my beloved friend Viv.

“Viv always wanted to do a Twilight Walk close to home, so I thought this would be a fitting tribute to her and to everyone we have lost to or is living with a brain tumour in the Ayrshire community.”

The walkers were joined by Ayr MSP John Scott and they went on to raise a magnificent £ 7000.

He said: “This hugely successful fundraising event was a fitting tribute to the memory of Viv.

“The sum raised will be a huge benefit to The Brain Tumour Charity, and I thank you to everyone who took part on the day, as well as those who donated so generously towards this magnificent total.”
